The role of self - similarity in singularities of partial differential equations ∗

چکیده

We survey rigorous, formal and numerical results on the formation of pointlike singularities (or blow-up) for a wide range of evolution equations. We use a similarity transformation of the original equation with respect to the blowup point, such that self-similar behaviour is mapped to the fixed point of a dynamical system. We point out that analysing the dynamics close to the fixed point is a useful way of characterizing the singularity, in that the dynamics frequently reduces to very few dimensions. As far as we are aware, examples from the literature either correspond to stable fixed points, low-dimensional centre-manifold dynamics, limit cycles or travelling waves. For each ‘class’ of singularity, we give detailed examples. Mathematics Subject Classification: 35A20

Heat and mass transfer of nanofluid over a linear stretching surface with Viscous dissipation effect

Boundary Layer Flow past a stretching surface with constant wall temperature, of a nanofluid is studied for heat transfer characteristics. The system of partial differential equations describing such a flow is subjected to similarity transformations gives rise to a boundary value problem involving a system of ordinary differential equations. This system is solved by a shooting method. Effect of...

Simulation of Singular Fourth- Order Partial Differential Equations Using the Fourier Transform Combined With Variational Iteration Method

In this paper, we present a comparative study between the modified variational iteration method (MVIM) and a hybrid of Fourier transform and variational iteration method (FTVIM). The study outlines the efficiencyand convergence of the two methods. The analysis is illustrated by investigating four singular partial differential equations with variable coefficients. The solution of singular partia...

Application of the tan(phi/2)-expansion method for solving some partial differential equations

In this paper, the improved  -expansion method is proposed to solve the Kundu–Eckhaus equation and Gerdjikov–Ivanov model. The applied method are analytical methods to obtaining the exact solutions of nonlinear equations. Here, the aforementioned methods are used for constructing the soliton, periodic, rational, singular and solitary wave solutions for solving some equations. We obtained furthe...

On The Simulation of Partial Differential Equations Using the Hybrid of Fourier Transform and Homotopy Perturbation Method

In the present work, a hybrid of Fourier transform and homotopy perturbation method is developed for solving the non-homogeneous partial differential equations with variable coefficients. The Fourier transform is employed with combination of homotopy perturbation method (HPM), the so called Fourier transform homotopy perturbation method (FTHPM) to solve the partial differential equations. The c...

A Diffusion Equation with Exponential Nonlinearity Recant Developments

The purpose of this paper is to analyze in detail a special nonlinear partial differential equation (nPDE) of the second order which is important in physical, chemical and technical applications. The present nPDE describes nonlinear diffusion and is of interest in several parts of physics, chemistry and engineering problems alike. Since nature is not linear intrinsically the nonlinear case is t...
